Timeline

1962:

  • ROTC Drill Team wins City Trophy

1963:

  • 100 building opened, including enclosed breezeway.
  • New cafeteria is opened.
  • Over 2700 students enrolled.

1964:

  • The original 500 building, which included the old Cafeteria, is demolished.

1966:

  • 600 Building on Fraser and 6th Street is opened.

1967:

  • A new 500 Building (shop building) is opened on Woods Street.
  • New gymnasium is opened
  • Old gym is closed and demolished

1968:

  • Student walkouts
  • 700 Building on Fraser Street is opened. 21 rooms with the only plastics shop in the district.
  • First computer class is offered at Garfield. The teacher is Jack Knight.

1969

  • The Mall area is completed
