SAS Accept/Waitlist Information

This information pertains only to families who applied to Garfield's SAS program via Choices. This information does not apply to families who are attending Garfield via Zone of Choice.  Please read the instructions below and refer to the communication we have sent you for information on what to do next.
  • Eligible students who live outside of Garfield High School's Zone of Choice may attend Garfield's SAS via Choices.
  • SAS Permits do not provide transportation; it will be the family's responsibility to get the student to and from school each day. However, all families can apply for transportation on Parent Portal via LAUSD's Bus Transportation for All program.
  • On-time SAS Choices applicants will be notified whether they have been accepted and offered a space by late March, 2026.  Online applicants will receive that notification via Parent Portal and further communication from us via the parent/guardian e-mail listed on your application.  Please make sure to check frequently and respond.
  • SAS Choices applicants who are not selected will be put on the wait list.
  • If you were notified that your child was "accepted" into the SAS program at Garfield, you must accept or decline your space by the deadline.
  • Families who do not accept their space by the deadline will be "declined" in the system.  All declines are final.
  • You may accept your space in Parent Portal, or by notifying us of your acceptance.  We can then update the system for you.  To accept your space, or for more information on this, please contact SAS Coordinator, Ms. Elizabeth Ruff at [email protected] .
  • Late permit applications will be accepted beginning in February, 2026.  Late applicants may be offered a place in our program depending on space available.
  • We will contact families from the wait/late lists as space becomes available.  Students who are placed on the wait/late list are not guaranteed a spot in Garfield High School's SAS program.  Therefore, it is highly recommended that families make alternative arrangements in case your child does not get offered a space in Garfield's SAS program.
If you applied for Garfield SAS via Choices and received a letter from LAUSD that says you/your child is Not Eligible for Garfield SAS, it may be because you live within Garfield's attendance area and did not need to complete a Choices application. You needed to apply via Zone of Choice, rather than via Choices. Please see the example letter below. As long as you also applied via Zone of Choice, then there is no issue at this time. Once your child is assigned a school via Zone of Choice, as long as it is one of the 4 Garfield Small Learning Communities, then your child will be a part of SAS at Garfield. If you also want your child to be a part of SOAR@SAS, then you can let us know once you have confirmation that your child has been assigned to Garfield.
