Garfield High School has been authorized by the California Department of Education to operate a Title I Schoolwide Program (SWP). As a result, the school receives resources from the state and federal governments that enable us to ensure that all students achieve at proficient or advanced levels on state assessments.

A comprehensive needs assessment and an analysis of the student achievement data were conducted to develop a Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). This was completed through the collaborative efforts of staff, parents, and students on Garfield’s School Site Council.

Services available to raise the academic achievement of all students include:

  •     Paraprofessionals in the classroom to provide direct support to teachers and students.
  •     Instructional Coaches to support core instruction and the professional development of teachers.
  •     Additional support staff to support parents/guardians and student mental and academic needs.
  •     Academic tutoring and skills development.
