Garfield Remembers!

The Garfield High School JROTC program leads the way by continuing our 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony in East L.A.  The date of this tragic event in U.S. history, September 11th, brings together our local law enforcement, Fire Dept., as well as military and veteran associations. We join the Garfield community to honor those who lost their lives as victims or as first responders. We strive to recapture the spirit of patriotism that emerged in the aftermath of this attack on our country.

1SG Raymond Eason coordinates this effort with the community and students in mind.  Communication and coordination between the school, local agencies, and the community takes time and careful planning.  The beauty of this event comes together with reverence and honor.

Because we have now reached the 15th anniversary of 9/11, we face the realization that some incoming freshman were not even born when this attack took place.

Therefore, this annual remembrance serves a twofold purpose: we honor those 2,977 people who lost their lives, and we provide a platform to teach our students about the terrorist attacks that took place on September 11, 2001.

Throughout the country, communities come together to plan and prepare ceremonies to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11.

In East L.A., Garfield High School joins together our community so that we “Never Forget!”
