U.S. History

Course Description

History doesn't have to be boring, I think understanding U.S. History is more important than ever.  This class covers the major turning points in U.S. history from the mid 1800's to the present.  During the first semester we will cover topics on the Reconstruction of the U.S. after the Civil War, American Expansion, The Gilded Age, Imperialism, World War I and the Roaring 1920's.  During the second semester we will cover The Great Depression, World War II, The Cold War, The Vietnam War, The Civil Rights Movement and 9-11.  As you can imagine, the activities, readings, and projects will help us better understand the various shifts in U.S. history and it's impact on the people.  Students will understand that our rights under the U.S. Constitution are a precious inheritance that depends on an educated citizenry for their preservation and protection.  Lastly, this class will focus on both the past and the most pressing current events of the day.  I expect all students to complete weekly current events in order to be socially conscious and aware of local, state, national and international events that affect the world.  My hope is that by learning from the events of the past, students will be able to not only better understand the present, but that they will help make the world a better place.
