My name is Mr. Garcia JL.  I was born and raised in Puebla, Mexico.  My parents moved to Los Angeles, CA when I was eleven years old.  I graduated from Jefferson High School in South Central Los Angeles, then I attended East Los Angeles College and Cal State LA where I obtained my History/Social Studies degree and teaching credential.  Since 2010 I have been teaching social studies at Garfield High School, a school with a rich history, pride and legacy.  In the past I have taught World History, Government, Economics, Ethnic Studies, but currently I am only teaching U.S. History and APUSH.  I enjoy my teaching career and it is an honor for me to be your history teacher this year.  My goal is for you to question history and create our own interpretation of the past.  History will empower you to better understand the world we live in and hopefully pave the way for a better future.  Throughout the school year we will learn together and practice varying degrees of skills such as reading, writing, speaking, listening and critical thinking strategies.  My goal is for you to develop your skills and confidence as you continue to pursue your dreams aspirations in life.  

 

When I am not teaching I enjoy to spending time with my family, my dogs, playing soccer, running, listening to music, outdoor adventures and traveling.  I truly believe life can be as beautiful as we want it to be.
