About Me
Hello! My name is Mr. Sierra, and I’m proud to be a Physics teacher at Garfield High School in East Los Angeles. Teaching here is more than just a job—it's a way for me to give back to the community that raised me.
I grew up right here in the area and graduated from Montebello High School. From there, I went on to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cal State Long Beach. While I loved the challenges of engineering, I discovered my true passion in teaching—especially in helping students connect with the wonder of physics.
To me, physics isn’t just about numbers or laws—it’s about understanding how our world works and empowering students to think critically, ask questions, and seek answers. I believe that science should be accessible, engaging, and meaningful for every student, no matter their background.
As someone who shares the same roots as many of my students, I’m committed to being a positive role model and mentor. I want each student who enters my classroom to feel seen, supported, and inspired to pursue their goals—whether in STEM or beyond.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy playing and coaching soccer and staying active, which helps me stay energized and focused—both on and off the field. I bring that same energy and teamwork mindset into my classroom every day.
