- Be approachable, friendly, and helpful, remembering to treat each patron with the same respect and consideration, whether they are a friend or a stranger.
- Be attentive, and listen carefully to the patron’s requests. Take your time and work thoughtfully.
- Keep the patron informed about what you are doing to answer his or her question, and do not make patrons wait for extended periods of time.
- If you cannot answer a question, calmly and politely admit this to the patron and ask the Librarian or Library Aide.
- In the event that you are having a problem with a patron who is questioning a charge or a policy, politely ask the patron to wait and get the Librarian or Library Aide to handle the situation. Be familiar with library policies.
- Do not hesitate to ask the Librarian or Library Aide for assistance at any time.
- Cooperate as a team member of the library staff, taking the initiative in performing any duty essential to efficient library operations.
- Keep up with your assigned duties and keep the Circulation Services Desk uncluttered.
- Library work is your first priority. Check with the Library Aide before working on any personal projects.
- Be honest. Things go wrong and mistakes are made. When you have problems or make a mistake, let the Librarian or Library Aide know. We need to work together to fix the problem.
- Be knowledgeable and ask the Librarian or Library Aide questions so that you can learn new things. There is always more to know.

16. Non-Library Practice students are not allowed behind the circulation desk.
- Please do not socialize with friends while performing your duties, play with library materials or equipment.
- Do not leave the library unless permission has been granted.
- Your actions and behavior must be professional at all times in order to present a positive role model for other students in the library.
- Follow all school rules; there is no earphone, cellphone or iPod use.
