Pathfinders

Many of the California Missions had outposts that were called Asistencias or Estancias. Aisistencias were sub-missions, while an Estancia was a rancho and both were created to better expand the mission's contact with the surrounding populations and better supply the needs of the main mission

Plans had been developed to create more missions (which probably would have been asistencias) farther inland. The plans were never carried out and so very little of any asistencia still exists today, including any form of records kept on these.

Why this site? We get many requests for information on the California Missions from both our high school students and faculty, especially since they have younger siblings or children who are deep into their fourth grade mission research.
