Memoir When we started our Garfield years Mr. Richard Mattingley was our homeroom teacher. That was the first place we would gather in the beginning of each day. We did change room numbers, but we were all together. At the beginning of our senior year our class seemed to have dwindled down to a few of us.....Mr. Mattingley imformed us through his saddness, that our homeroom class was too small, and we were going to be placed in another classroom. He was so sad, and of course we all protested against this decision, but those were the rules.
Mr. Mattingley did promise to be at our graduation as he put it, "I want to see how many of you make it, and I'll be there to support my students.
Graduation was at E.L.A College as it usually was back in the day, and so many family and friends filled that stadium, I received my diploma, walk down the platform, searching for Mr. Mattingley, and he was standing right in the place were everyone who received their diploma would have to past. I remember that he was looking at all the faces enthusiastically. I saw him first, and then he saw me, smiled from ear to ear, gave me a thumbs up. That was the so memerable for me, because he cared. He cared about all of us. That was how I closed my High School year at "GARFEILD HIGH!" THANK YOU MR. MATTINGLEY, YOU LEFT A LONG LIFE MEMORY, AND I'VE TOLD THIS MEMORY TO MY SON, AND MY GRANDCHILDREN........We were a few left from your homeroom, but, the few of us that were left probably felt the same way I felt when I saw you.

In closing I, Catalina, dedicate this song to you....TO SIR WITH LOVE.
