Memoir
I'm sure all band members during my years at GHS (1990-1993) would agree when I say that we dont believe there is any other teacher at GHS that made us want to work harder to make him proud than Mr. Manyweather. My foundest memories during all my years at GHS are in the band. I was one of the fortunate members to be in the band when we won the All-City Band Championship 3 years in a row for the first time.
Back to the great Mr. Manyweather, I can still recall as if it was yesterday, when during a half time show rehearsal Mr. Manyweather stopped us and thru his megahorn asked that I raise my hand. Thinking that he was going to point out the good rehearsal I was having I raised it without delay, of course waiting for praises (proving ignorance is bliss). Once everyone had their eyes on me, he yelled "Juan Mata dont you know how to march?!?!? Its left, right, left, right!!!!" Needless to say I put my hand down.
He thought us that "Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect". He made us believe we could do anything and that we were just as good and better and other school that might be better equiped. That stuck with me all these years and I hope I can instill that same principle in my kid.
Thanks for all the great memories and championships, Mr. Manyweather.
BIG BAD BULL DOGS! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! GARFIELD!
