Into the Harlem Renaissance
Hello Ms. Predan’s class! Welcome to the Library. Before you start, make sure to read all the directions completely and ask any questions if you need to. You’ll be creating a museum exhibit based on a person, place or event from the Harlem Renaissance.
First of all, what is the Harlem Renaissance?
The Harlem Renaissance is the name given to the era from the end of World War I and through the middle of the 1930s Depression. During this time a group of talented African-American writers produced a sizable body of literature in the four prominent genres of poetry, fiction, drama, and essay.
However, the Harlem Renaissance was more than just a literary movement: it included racial consciousness, racial integration, the explosion of music particularly jazz, spirituals and blues, painting, dramatic revues, and others.
This is just a short definition, so you’ll need to find out more.
