Museum Exhibit
You and your classmates will be divided into groups (six to nine groups of 3 students each) to conduct research on selected artists, musicians, poets and others of the Harlem Renaissance. Your group will use the information collected to create a class museum exhibit.
Look at the “Museum Exhibit Rubric” and discuss each item. Each exhibit should include (but is not limited to) the following elements:
- Examples of the artist’s, musician’s, or poet’s work
- Background information on the artist’s, musician’s, or poet’s life
- A visually interesting backdrop for the exhibit that captures the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance
- Identify their strengths and weaknesses.
- Was he/she an activist?
- What type of influence do they have today?
- A written or recorded guide to viewing the exhibit.
Please Note: You should design the guide to enhance the viewer’s experience and summarize key elements. You must think of the guide as a road map to guide viewers as they move through the exhibit. For example, students may choose to select a group member to act as a tour guide for their classmates or create an audiotape that highlights outstanding features of the exhibit.
Your group will select one person (group, place or event). One group will be allowed to sign up per topic. Please see the sign-up list provided.
