About Me
Hello families of Garfield High School! My name is Ms. Arias and I am a math teacher in the Humanitas learning community. I teach Geometry and Algebra 2. This is my first year teaching at Garfield and it is truly an honor to be teaching in my community. I grew up in Montebello so East LA has been a special place for my family and I.
I am a first-generation student. I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's in Mathematics for Teaching and I am currently working on my Master's in Education. One of my goals this year is to focus on building community in the classroom by doing different team building activities, icebreakers and having frequent check-ins. During class, students will be working in groups a lot therefore it is important for them to get to know each other to build trust and feel comfortable asking for help.

Soy un estudiante de primera generación. Me gradué de UCLA con una Licenciatura en Matemáticas y actualmente estoy trabajando en mi Maestría en Educación. Unas de mis metas este año es enfocarme en construir una comunidad en el salón de clases haciendo diferentes actividades de formación de equipos, actividades para romper el hielo y tener registros frecuentes. Durante la clase, los estudiantes trabajarán mucho en grupos, por lo que es importante que se conozcan para generar confianza y sentirse cómodos pidiendo ayuda.
