Hello students and parents, 

My name is Erika Huerta and I am one of the counselors for the University Preparatory Program (UPP) last names M-Z. I was born and raised in East Los Angeles and take pride in being a Garfield Alumni. Prior to returning to Garfield, I was a College Advisor for two years at Jordan High School in Long Beach, where I served as the primary source for college access for the seniors. Then, I served for two years as a Success Coach at Pasadena City College supporting first-year students in STEM and Business & Industry transition into community college. 

The philosophy that guides my work is reflected in being student-centered. My educational career and professional experience have contributed to my passion for becoming an agent of change and advocate for students. I am thrilled to become part of an environment that is dedicated to providing a dynamic and inspiring learning experience where students graduate ready for success. It is my goal to combine my range of experiences and skills to make a positive contribution to Garfield and the larger community.
