Mrs. Jennifer Balarie, Assistant Principal
Greetings Garfield Community and Supporters Beyond!
It is a pleasure to introduce myself to you as the proud Assistant Principal of the longest-established Small Learning Community at Garfield High School, The University Preparatory Program (UPP). I have enjoyed being an administrator at Garfield High School since January 2018, where, in addition to working with the wonderful staff of UPP, I oversee the Associated Student Body, Leadership, Student Store, the Science Department, School Safety, Williams Textbook Compliance, and the Bulldog Leadership Team. I have worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for over 15 years, and contribute to the Garfield community with my experiences teaching secondary science, serving as a school-site Data Coordinator, and fulfilling many teacher leader roles. I bring a unique perspective from my hometown of Arcata in Northern California, where I graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a deep appreciation for wildlife. Southern California has been my home for the past 20 years, where I have earned a Master's in Educational Administration from CSU Northridge. I have a profound interest in traveling and continue to add to a growing list of destinations. Next stop: Bucharest, Romania!
