Course Description
APUSH stands for Advanced Placement United States History. This is my favorite class to teach because it covers U.S. History from it's Indigenous history before European colonization all the way to the present. This class is equivalent to an introductory college level course, the assignments and expectations are rigorous yet rewarding. My goal is for students to gain valuable knowledge and enhance the critical thinking skills necessary to empower them to create their own interpretation of historical events. With more historical understanding, student will be able to better assess the world we live in. Lastly, in May students will end the class by taking the AP exam. Their goal is to score a 3, 4 or 5 on the exam to gain college credit. During the school year, we will practice for the exam while we cover valuable content. The exam consists of 55 multiple choice questions, 3 short answer questions, 1 document based question and 1 long essay on topics that range from the year 1491 to 2020. Fortunately, I have been teaching this course for seven years with a positive passing rate. Regardless of the exam score, I am confident students will finish the course with more confidence, knowledge and readiness for college level courses.
